The Role of Committees

The Santa Cruz County Child Care Planning Council operates a number of working committees focused on a variety of topics related to child care. Statement of Purpose:
The objective of the Santa Cruz County Afterschool Programs Consortium is to provide a forum
for the identification of challenges, needs, solutions and best practices in the Afterschool arena.
Supporting the sustainability of programs through seeking and retaining federal, state and local
resources and enhancing the quality of afterschool programs through providing needed
professional development opportunities to staff is of critical importance to us. We invite all
afterschool programs to join and become an active member.

2007-2008 Committee Goals:

  1. Establish economic and educational supports to build, maintain and retain a highly skilled workforce.
  2. Encourage partnerships between business, schools/districts service providers, parents, parks & recreation departments, community, local government and ECE and SAEL programs.
  3. Maximize ability to capture, maintain and utilize federal, state, local and private funds for infant/toddler, preschool and SAEL programs

Early Care and Education Conference Planning Committee

Planning for the 2008 CCAEYC Early Care and Education Conference will begin in September, 2007.
The conference will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Cabrillo College (Aptos Campus).

Master Plan Committee

Meeting Times and Location:
Third Tuesday of Every Month from 3:00-5:00 PM at the County Office of Education (unless otherwise noted). First meeting July 17.

  1. Strategize process of vetting Master Plan in the community
  2. Implement plan for vetting
    • Keep track of input
    • Incorporate revisions
    • Potentially create an addendum to include community comments
  3. Act as a “hub” for connection with and between other groups/agencies.
  4. Fill in the “potential implementers” column of the Master Plan
  5. Decide whether or not to create a time line for goals in the Master Plan.
  6. Adopt a finalized Master Plan by June 2008.

Policy and Local Planning Committee

  1. Utilize current and emerging research to engage private sector (including Business, Community and Government) and government support for ECE and SAEL programs.
  2. Maintain and expand the supply of infant/toddler, preschool and school age programs.
  3. Support the development of a universal preschool program for all three and four year olds that incorporates the existing ECE delivery system to ensure parental choice and integration with full-day care and education options.
  4. Additional goal about advocacy regarding state legislation in particular to be added.

  1. Maximize ability to capture, maintain and utilize federal, state, local and private funds for infant/toddler, preschool and SAEL programs.
  2. Increase family access to child care subsidies and tax credits.
  3. Provide technical assistance and adequate funds to assist programs to meet the particular needs of low-income children, children with special needs, English language learners, ethnically diverse children, homeless and migrant children and foster children, (as well as families working with CPS to maintain the family unit.) 
  4. And, ongoing CEL business/coordination, fighting bushfires in the subsidy world.
